The Automotive Mechanic will maintain a safe and clean service area. The Automotive Mechanic will diagnose mechanical faults, repair, and perform maintenance on automobiles, light trucks, and equipment. The Automotive Mechanic is expected to be thorough, reliable, logical, self-motivated, and work to establish high quality standards for their personal reputation and that of the NFR repair business. NFR Automotive Mechanic will listen to vehicle owner/operator complaints and work to identify and solve issues and concerns of the customer. This position reports to the Automotive Shop Manager,
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.0 PERFORMANCE AREA 1: General Automotive Maintenance & Repair
- Performs regular maintenance and major repairs on automobiles, light trucks, and other equipment. Maintenance and repairs including but are not limited to, major engine, brakes, steering and suspension, automatic transmissions, axles, driveline, manual transmissions and clutches, electrical & electronic systems, computer diagnostics, air conditioning and heating. May work collaboratively with manager and/or co-workers to complete
- Performs inspection of automobiles, light trucks, and other equipment to troubleshoot needed and appropriate repairs of engine and mechanical/electrical components to diagnose
- Performs safe operation of shop equipment, including and not limited to brake disc & drum lathe, on-car brake lathe, 25-ton press, transmission flush machine, coolant flush machine and A/C refrigerant
- Completes tire repairs, wheel alignments, tire installation, and tire
- Performs minor body repairs, including and not limited to fenders and bumper
- Responsible for ensuring a safe workplace by cleaning the workspace daily, clean spills when they occur, keep areas free of clutter and debris.
- Maintain the automotive repair facility in a condition that is always clean and
- Safeguard the cleanliness of the vehicle and to ensure prevention of accidental grime by regularly using floor mats, seat covers, and steering wheel covers when
- Performs test-drives, inspections, and other diagnostic tests on vehicles to troubleshoot issues and determine what needs replacing or
- Responsible to ensure that work area complies with safety requirements as provided by NFR and
- Ensures that hazardous waste is handled properly and meets disposal standards set by OSHA, EPA, state, local, and federal
- Responsible for the safe operation of company vehicles, equipment, and customer vehicles. Transport parts, supplies, equipment, and customers using NFR vehicles or customer
- Abides by expectations that ensure that equipment/tools are used safely and properly to avoid personal injury or damage to Keeps equipment service maintenance records updated.
- Immediately report damage of any kind, including damage to customer vehicles, customer property, or NFR property.
- Responsible for taking initiative and recommending effective process, maintenance, and safety procedures to management, supervisor, or
- Effectively communicates with vendors to order parts or other services. Communicates information, along with possible timeframes, delays and shortages to supervisor and customer.
- Supports the success of the program by assisting the Automotive Shop Manager in training and evaluating automotive apprentice
2.0 PERFORMANCE AREA 2: Customer Service and Office Functions
- Listens and engages with customer to learn about vehicle history, potential problems, and services they are looking to
- Creates accurate estimates (cost, time,) for repairs and maintenance and reviewing with customer. As part of this, be very familiar with the California Bureau of Automotive Repair’s “Write it Right” and other laws and regulations regarding automotive estimates, repair orders and invoices
- Supports the success of the business by ensuring that logs are consistently updated and documenting work area
- Answer phones in a courteous, professional
- Accurately estimate repairs and work orders to ensure that information meets State of California Law and fair/ethical business
- Maintain proper records including and not limited to receipts, estimates, repair orders and
- Required to collect payment from customers. This includes giving accurate change when necessary and using area Point of Sale (POS)
- Delivers exceptional customer services by treating customers, co-workers, supervisors, NFR Tribal Citizens and Tribal Administration with respect in a professional and courteous
3.0 PERFORMANCE AREA 3: General Corporate Expectations
- Attends and actively participates in all meetings (e.g., department meetings, program meetings, employee staff meetings) and other activities as required or
- Participates in learning opportunities to update job knowledge. Attends workshops/seminars, classes for Certifications as necessary to increase skills and knowledge to provide effective care, treatment, and/or
- Supports the overall needs of the organization by working flexible or extended hours when
- Demonstrates awareness of, and compliance with, organizational mission and objective of NFR automotive repair business to provide support/repair services for all members of the
- Maintains confidentiality and respect for information regarding customers and other team members; abides by NFR Rules of Confidentiality and general privacy regulations regarding
- Displays a positive, professional, and respectful demeanor always toward employees, peers, professional contacts, and Tribal Citizens, maintaining a professional appearance and positive image for North Fork Rancheria.
- Contributes to the team by promoting positive staff interaction, maintains open communication with other programs/departments of North Fork Rancheria.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSE/CERTIFICATION, & SKILLS
- High School Graduate or GED or acceptable high school equivalent education.
- Preferred – Minimum five (5) years prior experience as an automotive journey-level technician or a diploma from an accredited post-secondary automotive training program and three years of automotive technician
- Preferred – supervisor experience.
- Valid driver’s license (required).
- Preferred – Current automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications (ASE A-1 and L1 Certifications)
- Preferred – EPA Section 609 Certification to handle
- Additional manufacture certifications a
Skills – Preferred
- Experience in alignment angles, adjustments, and procedures
- Expert-level knowledge of methods, tools, materials, and equipment used in the maintenance, adjustment, and repair of automobiles, light trucks, and
- Knowledge with electronic ignition, fuel control, and emission control devices and
- Experience with diesel engine
- Intermediate to expert use of computers and various software programs. Including ability to perform complex computer and electrical diagnosis and
- Ability to read and understand complex wiring
- Familiarity with using an automotive scan tool along with module programing and
- Ability to follow both written and verbal
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and
- Ability to work both independently and as a member of a
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Regularly works within the office, shop and outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and the risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand, talk, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and smell.
Must frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
