Abrielle ‘Abby’ Garcia, tribal citizen and a senior at Highland High School in Bakersfield, began working on her SAE (Supervised Agriculture Experience) project in February 2020 just before the pandemic. Once schools closed to in person learning, Abby, along with countless other students, finished her junior year and started her senior year with distant learning.
Despite the challenges that come with the pandemic and distant learning Abby was able to maintain a 4.0 GPA. Even more, Abby and her steer Chewy won Reserve Grand Champion for Slick Sheer Beef Market at the Kern County fair in October.
Abby plans to attend Fresno State University in the fall of 2021 and major in Animal Science before transferring to Oklahoma State for their veterinary science program. Abby’s commitment to Agriculture and her dream to become a livestock veterinarian makes her family proud.
